Tata Power and Indian Oil Corporation unite for a transformative EV journey, deploying 500+ fast chargers nationwide, fostering sustainability and enhancing electric mobility.

In a significant move towards strengthening the India's electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEV CSL), a subsidiary of the Tata Power Group, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) have joined forces to install over 500 fast and ultra-fast EV charging points across the country. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to establish a reliable and extensive intercity charging network to alleviate the range of anxiety for the EV owners.
Strategic Rollout Across Major Cities and Highways
The EV charging points will be strategically installed in major cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi. Furthermore, the collaboration also targets highways that are critical for intercity travel, such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral.
Commitment to Sustainable Electric Mobility
Mr. Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development-EV Charging at Tata Power, emphasized the strategic significance of the partnership, stating, that "Our partnership with IOCL is a strategic move towards establishing a robust EV charging network in the country. Leveraging IOCL's extensive presence, Tata Power will set up fast and superfast charging points in multiple regions, contributing to accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future.”
Dual Advantage for EV Users
To enhance the EV user experience, Tata Power will provide a dual advantage through the 'Tata Power EZ Charge' app and the 'IndianOil e-Charge' mobile app. These apps will enable users to locate and book chargers conveniently, ensuring a seamless charging experience.
IOCL's Commitment to Transformative Shift
Representing IOCL, Sh. Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E), expressed the corporation’s commitment to adapting to the rising trend of electric vehicle penetration. He highlighted IOCL's ambitious goal of providing 10,000 EV charging stations by 2024, transforming retail networks into complete energy solutions outlets. With over 6,000 EV charging stations already in operation, IOCL plans to expand its reach further, playing a pivotal role in the transformative shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility.
Presence at the MOU Signing Ceremony
The MoU signing ceremony saw the presence of key stakeholders, including Mr. K Navin Charan, Chief General Manager, Retail Transformation, IOCL; Mr. Soumitra Chakraborty, Chief General Manager, Marketing Strategy, IOCL, and Mr. Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development – EV Charging, Tata Power, along with officials from IOCL and Tata Power.
Tata Power's Leadership in EV Charging
Tata Power has solidified its position as a leader in the electric vehicle charging domain, boasting a substantial market share of nearly 60%. With an expansive nationwide network reaching more than 420 cities, Tata Power offers a comprehensive array of charging solutions, including over 62,000 home chargers, 4,900 public and semi-public charging points, and 430 bus charging stations. The continually expanding network underscores Tata Power's unwavering commitment to enhancing electric vehicle charging accessibility across the nation.
