Unofficial pre-bookings have begun, and this twin-cylinder micro SUV promises versatility with ample cargo space.
Tata Motors' dealerships have quietly started accepting pre-bookings for the much-awaited Tata Punch CNG variant. Expected to hit the roads later this month, the Punch CNG is poised to be the first "SUV" from Tata Motors with the CNG fuel option. With the twin-cylinder technology borrowed from the Altroz, the Punch CNG promises to deliver a blend of practicality and eco-friendliness.
Twin-Cylinder Technology for Ample Range
The Tata Punch CNG incorporates the ingenious twin-cylinder technology that was introduced earlier on the Altroz model. This clever system houses two 30-litre CNG tanks beneath the cargo space, replacing the spare wheel's traditional location found in the petrol version. The spare wheel, in turn, finds its place mounted under the vehicle, ensuring no compromise on cargo space.
Versatility and Usable Cargo Space
Setting itself apart from other CNG-equipped passenger cars, the Punch CNG offers a commendable usable cargo area. This practicality is a boon for buyers who require ample storage while enjoying the benefits of CNG-powered mobility.
Feature-Packed and Mimicking Petrol Variants
The Tata Punch CNG won't skimp on features either. Expect the model to inherit all the bells and whistles from its petrol counterpart, including projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, an electric sunroof, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety won't be compromised either, with features like six airbags, ABS, and more to safeguard occupants.
Power and Performance
Powering the Tata Punch CNG will be a detuned version of the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine shared with the Altroz. Expect the punchy motor to churn out 76 bhp and 97 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The CNG Advantage and Market Competition
Positioned just in time for the festive season, the Tata Punch CNG will face stiff competition. Rivalling the newly-launched Hyundai Exter CNG and the likes of Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in the segment, the Punch CNG seeks to carve its niche with its CNG advantage, appealing to eco-conscious buyers.
As we approach the official launch, pricing and fuel efficiency details will be disclosed, and it's reasonable to expect a slight premium over the petrol variants. The Tata Punch CNG undoubtedly has the potential to make a strong statement in the subcompact SUV arena, offering a compelling blend of practicality, efficiency, and a dash of eco-consciousness to Indian car buyers.
