The Indian passenger vehicle market continues to witness the dominance of Maruti Suzuki once again. With fierce competition among the brands, we experienced some ups and downs in the pecking order. A total of 1,80,000 units moved in August 2025 with no exception in the sales chart. However, with such fierce competition, Maruti Suzuki maintained its lead in the top 10. 1. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga takes the top spot in August 2025. The car registered sales of around 18,445 units, with a subtle 1% dip year-on-year. The car ranked first among its competitors. With the increasing demand from both private owners and the taxi segment, bolstered by CNG variants and efficient powertrains. The car offers better fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs, and best-in-class mileage, making the Ertiga a best-selling vehicle in India.
2. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The second car on the list is none other than the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The mid-size sedan achieved a remarkable 55% growth over last year, with 16,509 units dispatched in August 2025. Renowned for its reliability and efficiency, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire benefits from wide fleet adoption and robust urban sales. The best-selling variant of the Dzire is powered by the CNG engine, claiming a mileage of 25.71 kmpl.
3. Hyundai Creta
At No. 3 is the best-selling SUV in India, the Hyundai Creta. The 2025 iteration of the Hyundai Creta has recorded sales of about 15,924 units in the month of August 2025. While the brand faces a slight 5% decline year-on-year, it is capturing 11.28% market share in the passenger vehicle SUV segment. The Creta, along with its EV iteration, continues to lead with superior design, features, and powertrains that appeal to family buyers and driving enthusiasts.
4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The best-selling car from the nameplate of Maruti Suzuki, the Wagon R, ranked 4th on the list. In August 2025, Wagon R sold around 14,552 units, which is slightly less than the 16,450 units sold in August 2024. This 1,898 difference in figures has dropped the market by 11.54% year-on-year growth.
Still, Indian customers mostly see it as their first-ever car. The vehicle is known for its space and practicality. The new Wagon R keeps attracting budget-conscious buyers and urban families with its strong resale value.
5. Tata Nexon
Finally, good to see a Tata car on the list. Tata’s best-selling Nexon and Nexon EV maintained the momentum with record sales of around 14,004 units, reflecting a 14% year-on-year increase in August 2025. Nexon’s robust build, safety credentials, and dynamic styling have made it a crowd favorite in the compact SUV segment, strengthening Tata’s market position in this fierce competition.
6. Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The 2025 Maruti Suzuki Brezza continues its stronghold among compact SUVs with 13,620 units sold, though it saw a 29% dip compared to last year. However, consider that the sales of August 2025 are largely lower than the sales of 19,190 in August 2024. Still, people are buying this car for its rugged styling and fuel efficiency. The car also offers a CNG powertrain within the same package as petrol engines.
7. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The premium hatchback Maruti Suzuki Baleno climbed up the rankings with 12,549 units dispatched in August 2025. Directly, 64 more units were sold when compared to 12,485 units in August 2024. Its blend of style, technology, and efficiency ensures Baleno’s status as a segment leader.
