The long-awaited Speed 400, the cheapest mid size bike from Triumph, is now available.

Triumph Speed 400 price revealed: Leaving the Mid Size segment in shock

The new entry-level Triumphs are powered by a new liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine called the TR-series. It produces 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm and is paired with a 6-speed transmission. The power and torque figures are similar to the KTM 390s (also manufactured in India by Bajaj), but the Triumphs reach them sooner in the rev range.

Design and Features

Triumph Speed 400 price revealed: Leaving the Mid Size segment in shock

Both the Speed and Scrambler bikes have a design inspired by their bigger siblings and have a premium look and feel despite their affordable price tag. They feature a digi-analogue instrument cluster and can even get heated grips as an option, which is quite rare in this segment. Tyres and Wheels

The Speed 400 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends wrapped with MRF Steel Brace tyres (which were first seen on the Ultraviolette F77) and not the high-end Metzeler or Pirelli tyres that were shown in the international images. Some Speed 400s were also seen with Apollo Alpha H1 tyres, so it is unclear which tyre will be offered to customers or if both will be. Likewise, the Scrambler 400 X has 19/17-inch alloy wheels on both ends with dual-purpose MRF Zapper Kurve tyres.1.png

Price and Availability

The Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh, which makes it cheaper than its competitors like the KTM 390 Duke (Rs 2.97 lakh), BMW G 310 R (Rs 2.85 lakh), RE Interceptor 650 (Rs 3.03 lakh – Rs 3.31 lakh). Both bikes come with a 2 year/unlimited mileage warranty and a 16,000 km service interval. The Speed 400 will be available from late July onwards and the Scrambler 400 X will follow in October. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.
