The Indian automotive industry is preparing to give a blockbuster in the 2026 season. With the new year just a day away, auto manufacturers are gearing up to launch new cars in January 2026. At the forefront, Renault, Nissan, and Mahindra are ready to reveal their upcoming models, while others are preparing to unveil their conceptual designs to Indian customers with promising advanced tech, powertrains, and competitive pricing.
In January 2026, auto enthusiasts can also expect the launch of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, the brand’s first-ever electric car for the Indian market. These launches signal intensified rivalry in the midsize SUV and compact segments, bolstered by Bharat NCAP safety ratings and feature-packed cabins. Let’s take a tour and unwrap all the upcoming cars that are ready to launch in January 2026.
Launch Date: January 2, 2026

The first car to be mentioned on the list is the upcoming next-gen Kia Seltos. The South Korean brand is ready to kick off the first month of 2026 with its second generation of Seltos. With bookings ongoing, the car is ready to make its official debut on January 2, 2026. Built on the new K3 platform, it features a larger tiger-nose grille, vertical LED DRLs, connected tail lamps, and new colors like Morning Haze and Magma Red, enhancing its road presence.
Talking about its power and performance, the 2026 Kia Seltos will retain its 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, which will be offered for the standard variant. Moving to the higher variant levels, the vehicle might offer a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel engine as options. The cabin boasts dual 12.3-inch displays, Level 2 ADAS, and four trims: HTE, HTK, HTX, GT-Line, and X-Line. Priced from Rs 11-22 lakh (ex-showroom), it aims to defend Kia's midsize SUV leadership against the Hyundai Creta and rivals.
Launch Date: January 5, 2026

Mahindra unveils the XUV 7XO, a major refresh of the XUV 700, on January 5, 2026, with pre-bookings at Rs 21,000 already ongoing. This would be the updated facelift version of the best-selling Mahindra XUV 700. The car might be priced from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. It will be the second car under Mahindra’s portfolio to offer a triple-screen setup on the dashboard, like the XEV 9e.
Talking about its features, the car offers a powered 'boss mode' front passenger seat, two-spoke steering, and Harman Kardon audio. For the 2026 season, the Mahindra 7XO retains the same 2.0L turbo-petrol engine that is capable of generating 200 HP of power. Then, for a mid-spec variant, a 2.2L turbo diesel engine is available, which produces around 185 HP of power. Exterior updates distinguish it from the XUV 700, including a 540-degree camera and ADAS visuals for safety.
Launch Date: First Week of January 2026

Tata Motors has already unveiled the petrol variants of the Safari and Harrier models under the portfolio. These two best-selling models will now be powered by an all-new 1.5L Hyperion turbo-petrol engine. This new powertrain will be capable of producing 170 HP of power and 280 Nm of peak torque. Similar to the Tata Sierra, the brand is ready to offer the Safari and Harrier with a 6-speed manual as standard and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic as a secondary option.
Considering its features, the top 'Ultra' trims add a 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen, JBL audio, a digital IRVM, and washer-equipped cameras, priced at Rs 13-24.5 lakh for Harrier and Rs 14-25.5 lakh for Safari. Both SUVs earned strong BNCAP scores, emphasizing safety in the premium SUV space against the MG Hector and the Mahindra offerings.
Launch Date: Late January 2026

The most-awaited car on the list is the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. The giant Indian manufacturer is ready to launch its first-ever electric car in late January 2026. For the 2026 iteration, the upcoming e-Vitara will be offered with multiple battery configuration setups. The base variant might be powered by a 49 kWh battery pack that produces 144 HP of power, and the top-spec variant will be equipped with a 61 kWh battery pack that churns out 174 HP of peak torque.
As the brand has not revealed any pricing details, we can expect that the car might be priced between Rs 18 lakh and 25 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, across Delta, Zeta, and Alpha trim levels. The EV targets practicality with Toyota collaboration synergies. Rivals include the Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE6. The brand offers a claimed ARAI mileage of about 543 km on a single charge.

Renault reveals the next-gen Duster on January 26, 2026, reviving the nameplate after four years, with deliveries starting from March 2026. This upcoming model will be based on the new CNF-B platform, developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance. For the Indian market, the brand will provide the all-new Duster with multiple engine options. For the lower trim, the SUV will be powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol turbo engine that churns out 100 HP of power and 160 Nm of peak torque.
However, the top-spec model might offer a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine producing around 156 HP of power. While getting inside the cabin, the driver might experience a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a full ADAS Level 2 safety suite. The French automaker will be making some tweaks for the Indian customers, targeting compact SUV buyers seeking value over the Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet.
Launch Date: Mid-January 2026

The much-awaited car, ready to go live in January 2026, is from the nameplate of Nissan. The Japanese brand will unveil the upcoming Nissan Gravite MPV in mid-January 2026, launching later in the month of March 2026. The upcoming MPV will be based on the CMF-A+ platform shared with the Renault Triber. To keep the car competitive, the brand priced the car around Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
Under the hood, the MPV will be powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is the same one used by the existing Triber, capable of producing 72 HP of power and 96 Nm of peak torque. This car offers a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT as an option for customers.
Launch Date: Mid-January 2026

Tata Motors, along with the Safari and Harrier petrol variants, is making plans to debut the all-new 2026 Tata Punch facelift version in mid-January 2026. The facelift Punch could offer certain design aesthetics from the under-production unit of the upcoming Tata Punch EV. Talking about its engine, the car might be powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing about 88 HP of power and 115 Nm of peak torque.
January 2026 is poised with SUV-centric launches, accelerating the EV shift amid falling battery costs and incentives. Tata and Mahindra dominate volume, and Kia has premium appeal, while Maruti's e-Vitara could redefine affordable electrics. Buyers should prioritize ADAS-equipped models for safety, tech, and refined features.
January 2026 promises India's auto scene an electrifying start with SUVs, EVs, and bold reveals from Kia, Mahindra, Tata, and more. Buckle up for fierce competition driving innovation, safety, and value.
