BMW has expanded its dedicated i electric lineup with the introduction of the 2027 BMW iX3, an all-new electric SUV built on the company’s latest EV-first architecture. This global model takes inspiration from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept and arrives with a standard 463 hp all-wheel-drive electric powertrain. BMW is targeting an EPA-estimated range of around 400 miles on a single charge.
Design and Interior
The new iX3 sports a noticeably different look compared to the petrol-powered X3. Its exterior follows BMW’s new electric design direction, featuring a cleaner silhouette and futuristic detailing.
Inside, the cabin steps into a new era of BMW design. The dashboard houses a uniquely shaped infotainment screen, while a sleek 43-inch digital panel stretches across the base of the windshield, functioning as the SUV’s main instrument display. Expect this display configuration to become a signature element in upcoming BMW EVs.
Expert Insight: If an SUV isn’t your preference, BMW is also preparing a closely related EV sedan—expected to revive the i3 badge—along with several other Neue Klasse–based 3 Series derivatives, including a future combustion-engine version with similar styling.
Performance and Powertrain
- Motor Output: 463 hp (dual-motor)
- Drivetrain: All-wheel drive
BMW refers to this version as the 50 xDrive, and early prototype drives show strong acceleration and the composed handling BMW is known for. A single-motor variant could join the lineup at a later stage.
0–60 mph Acceleration
- Claimed Time: 4.7 seconds (BMW estimate)
The figure seems conservative, especially when compared with the Porsche Macan EV 4S, which delivers 509 hp and achieved 3.6 seconds in independent testing.
Towing Capacity
- Maximum Towing: 4,400 lbs
Though towing will naturally reduce range—as with any EV—the iX3 is rated to tow up to 4,400 pounds when equipped with the optional trailer hitch.
Range, Charging Speeds, and Battery
- Battery Capacity: 108.7 kWh
- Claimed Range: ~650 Kms
- Max Charging Power: 400 kW DC fast charging
The large battery pack sits under the floor for a low center of gravity. BMW claims that under ideal fast-charging conditions, the iX3 can gain up to 230 miles in roughly 10 minutes.
A standard 11 kW AC charger is included, while a 22 kW onboard charger is offered for faster home or AC charging.
Interior, Space, and Cargo

Front Row
The cabin uses sustainable materials and offers a light, airy feel. Faux leather comes standard, with genuine leather available. Ambient lighting enhances the premium atmosphere.
Rear Row
Two adults will find ample space and comfort, thanks to good legroom and dedicated air vents. Multiple USB ports are provided for device charging.

Cargo
The iX3 provides a generous rear luggage area plus a compact front trunk (frunk). Additional storage niches throughout the cabin make it easy to keep small items organized.

Infotainment & Connectivity
- Touchscreen: 17.9 inches
- Driver Display: 43-inch panoramic strip
- Connectivity: Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Audio: 13-speaker Harman Kardon system
The large central screen handles all major controls, while the long, ribbon-style display along the windshield improves visibility for key driving information. A head-up display is optional and complements the tech-heavy layout.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Standard Features:
- Automatic emergency braking
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Adaptive cruise control
- Optional Features: Advanced adaptive cruise with hands-free driving capability
