Tata is preparing to update its Harrier and Safari as well
It only takes a quick glance at the mid-size SUV market to realise Mahindra is dominating the sales charts. With the XUV700 and Scorpio N, Mahindra has tremendous market clout in this niche. They have a very long waiting list for their products because they are so well-liked. This sector was originally governed by Harrier and Safari.
To fight for the top rank, Safari and Harrier require an update in terms of features, etc. Tata Motors will probably present updated versions of the Harrier and Safari at the 2023 Auto Expo in a month. Before that, a visible ADAS module in the lower bumper of the Tata Safari Facelift has been spotted.
Tata is giving the Safari and Harrier makeovers. A whole new front fascia is part of the Harrier facelift, which has been spotted. At the bottom, next to its headlights, are two additional additions: two spherical fog lamps. These fog lamps are absent from the previously observed Safari Facelift.
Front bumper at the bottom now features a square cutout where Tata is going to insert radar and sensors for ADAS features. None of these changes are present on the Tata Safari facelift test mule that was recently spotted testing in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This is probably the top variant of 2023 Tata Safari facelift, as it gets ADAS feature.
Due to the fact that Harrier and Safari are platform siblings, these upgrades to Safari should also affect Harrier. There have been cameras found on the ORVMs of previous test mules. Tata is also anticipated to provide a larger touchscreen and improve the interiors. Harrier and Safari have a smaller screen than its competitors and a less appealing user interface.
As of now, the 2.0L diesel engine that powers both the Harrier and the Safari is a Stellantis engine. It generates 350 Nm of torque and 172 horsepower of power. Both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic are used for transmission. Competitors in this market area with petrol engines include the XUV700 and Hector. resulting in an alluring beginning price.
Harrier and Safari are both devoid of petrol engines. For upcoming SUVs, Tata is creating a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. It was commonly believed that this gasoline engine will be used in the Harrier and Safari. There were numerous Safari test mules with emission-testing gear fastened to their boot, adding credence to this rumour.
Rajan Amba, vice president of sales, marketing, and customer care at Tata Motors, downplayed these rumours by claiming that a petrol engine for the Harrier and Safari is not in their best interests. Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts might make their debuts at the 2023 Auto Expo, and a launch is imminent.
