BYD Unveils Teaser for Rugged G-Class Inspired Hybrid SUV

BYD, a Chinese automaker, is preparing to launch a tough off-road vehicle that will rival the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The SUV is expected to be released in China in 2023, followed by a global launch in 2024.

A video posted online shows a prototype of the new five-seater hybrid SUV from BYD, which will be the first vehicle in the company's new F model line. The F line is expected to include other SUVs and pickup trucks in the future.

There is limited information available about BYD's upcoming off-roader, known internally as the SF, prior to its anticipated debut at the 2023 Shanghai motor show in April. However, BYD representatives have disclosed that the vehicle will be approximately 5,000mm long and have a wheelbase of 2,850mm.

BYD has announced that the SF will feature a brand-new hybrid powertrain, which will produce an impressive 671hp and surpass the Mercedes-Benz G63 in terms of power. The vehicle is expected to have a range of over 1,200km, thanks to its petrol-electric hybrid engine.

The SF will have an automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, and variable power distribution between the front and rear axles. The vehicle's rear wheels will also have torque-vectoring functionality. Additionally, the SF will have differential locks in the front, centre, and rear, and will be built on a ladder-frame chassis.

BYD Launches EV Lineup in India

BYD has already introduced the Atto 3 EV SUV and the E6 EV MPV in the Indian market, and the all-electric sedan BYD Seal will become available for purchase later in the year.
