Ford Rolls out Last Made-In-India EcoSport: End of an Era

As Ford unveiled the final domestically produced EcoSport subcompact SUV, an era has come to an end. The subcompact SUV will be exported from its Tamil Nadu facility.

Ford India has released the final locally-produced Ecosport subcompact SUV from its plant in Tamil Nadu, signaling the end of an era. The final EcoSports will be exported from India after being constructed at Ford's Maraimalai Nagar plant for both India and the rest of the world. Ford's operations in India have come to an end after the American automaker left the country in September of last year. While retail operations came to an end in 2021, the final export orders took until today to be fulfilled.

Ford had two manufacturing facilities in India. The facilities at Gujarat's Maraimalai Nagar and Sanand. For both domestic and international markets, the latter manufactured the Aspire and Figo automobiles. This plant was the first to close, and Tata Motors will now take over operations as the Indian manufacturer increases its focus on developing electric vehicles. Ford's oldest manufacturing facility, Tamil Nadu, produced a variety of vehicles. The vehicle was the brand's best-selling vehicle for a considerable amount of time after turning out to be a huge success and launching the subcompact SUV market. The made-in-India export was successful in reaching a number of countries, including the US. However, production of the final export units took place while there was a work stoppage at the facility.

The EcoSport had a lifespan of eight years during which it continued to sell well and had numerous modifications. The 1.5-liter diesel engine was the most popular choice, although alternative options included the 1.5-liter gasoline engine and the formerly available 1.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost gasoline engine. The most recent change was introduced in 2021 when Ford introduced a new grade without the spare wheel located on the tailgate. Sadly, this signals the end of the EcoSport, a vehicle that was instrumental in the development of several modern subcompact SUVs.
