Hike in Prices as Citroen C3 Gets Upgraded to BS6 Stage II and OBD2-Compliant Engines

Citroen India recently made an announcement that they have made some significant updates to their C3 hatchback. The new version of the car now features BS6 Stage II and OBD2-compliant engines, which means that it complies with the latest emission norms set by the Indian government. However, due to these updates, the prices of the hatchback have increased.

The Indian government has set a deadline of April 1st for automobile manufacturers to comply with the new emission norms, and Citroen has taken the necessary steps to ensure that their vehicles meet these standards. Apart from the updated engine, there have been no other changes made to the Citroen C3.

Since its launch in July 2022, Citroen has hiked the price of the C3 hatchback twice. In January, the car received its first price hike, and in the latest hike, the price has gone up by Rs.18,000. This means that in just two months, the Citroen C3 has become significantly costlier, with an overall price hike of up to Rs.45,000.

Overall, Citroen India's decision to update the C3 hatchback with compliant engines is a step in the right direction towards reducing pollution levels in the country. However, customers will have to bear the brunt of the increased prices of the car due to these updates.

At the time of its launch, the Citroen C3 was introduced with a base price of Rs.5.70 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec variant was priced at Rs.8.05 lakh (ex-showroom). However, in January, Citroen revised the prices, and the starting price was increased to Rs.5.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

In the latest hike, the prices of the Citroen C3 have gone up again, and the starting price will now be Rs.6.16 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end Feel Vibe dual-tone Turbo variant will now cost Rs.8.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It is worth noting that the price of the top-end variant has remained unchanged since the previous hike in January.

The Citroen C3 is powered by two petrol engines, and there have been no changes made to them in the latest update. Despite the price hike, the C3 remains a popular choice for buyers looking for a stylish and practical hatchback. While the increased prices may be a cause for concern for some, the updates made to the engine ensure that the car is compliant with the latest emission norms.

The Citroen C3 is offered with two petrol engines - the first being a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated unit that can deliver a maximum power of 81 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The second engine is a 1.2-litre turbocharged unit that can produce a power output of 109 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm. The car is available with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Apart from the Citroen C3, the company has two other models on offer in the Indian market. The C5 Aircross is Citroen's flagship model and is priced at Rs. 37.17 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the eC3 is Citroen's electric vehicle and is priced at Rs. 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The C5 Aircross is a premium SUV that boasts a host of features and is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that can produce a power output of 175 bhp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The eC3, on the other hand, is an all-electric version of the Citroen C3 and is powered by a 50 kWh battery pack that can deliver a range of up to 280 km on a single charge.

In summary, Citroen has a diverse range of vehicles on offer in the Indian market, catering to a wide range of customers with different needs and preferences.
