KTM CEO confirms that Bajaj could manufacture KTM 790 Duke-like bikes in India.
KTM has announced that it will start producing its middleweight parallel-twin motorcycles in India. The company has not yet revealed which models will be manufactured locally. This move is expected to help KTM reduce costs and offer more affordable options to its customers.
KTM has been one of the fastest-growing motorcycle brands in India in recent years. The company has a strong presence in the premium and performance motorcycle segment, with a wide range of models catering to different needs and preferences.
KTM enthusiasts in India have something to cheer about as the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer has confirmed that it will be making its middleweight parallel-twin motorcycles in India itself. This decision is expected to result in more affordable prices for KTM bikes in the country.
Speaking to a global media outlet, Pierer said that although CFMoto manufactures KTM's 790 platform in China with complete localization, importing Chinese-made 790 products to India would not be good for the brand. As a result, conversations with Bajaj for producing the KTM 790 Duke in India have already started, subject to supply chain development.
In an interesting turn of events, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer has confirmed that the company’s future strategy involves producing its twin-cylinder middleweight models in India with Bajaj within the next two years. Back in January, Stefan explained (to the media) why selling its big bikes in India didn't make a sound business proposition for them. However, with the company now looking at localisation, existing KTM 390cc owners may soon have products worth upgrading to within the orange brand itself.
The middleweight parallel-twin KTM is being produced in India, which is good news for KTM owners who are thinking about upgrading from their 390s but still want to continue with the Austrian bike manufacturer. Localization would make it easier to sell these goods competitively and package them as legitimate hoon machines.
Pierer also reaffirmed the decision to retire the storied 490cc parallel-twin platform in favour of a scaled-down 790cc platform that might be known as the "690" or "650." This future KTM platform, which is currently in development, may potentially be produced by Bajaj.
