Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-Door SUV to Get a Sunroof; Official Launch Next Year

The official launch of the upcoming Mahindra 5-door Thar is set for CY24. Before its launch, a new spy shot has gone viral on the internet, confirming the sunroof in a 5-door Mahindra Thar. It's the first time a Mahindra Thar can be seen with a sunroof. According to sources, the spy shots were clicked by automotive enthusiast Niklesh Singh near Wakad in Pune. The 3-door Thar has already made a huge success in the Indian market by registering over 1 lakh units in sales from late 2020. About 58,000 units are yet to be delivered for 3-door Thar.

5-Door Mahindra Thar to Get Sunroof

Mahindra already has a long pending order list of around 3 lakh units, majoring with Scorpio, XUV700, and Mahindra Thar 3-door. With the huge pending list, the leading automotive company announced not to launch any new model this year and put effort into decreasing the waiting period.

Two major launches of Mahindra 5-door Thar and XUV300 facelift are scheduled for next year. Both of these models are spied testing together on Indian roads. Over the decades, most Mahindra customers demanded sunroofs in Mahindra SUVs. Based on spy shots, this time, the company can finally offer this feature in the upcoming Mahindra Thar and XUV300.

Discussing more on the 5-door Thar, Mahindra can launch this upcoming SUV in both petrol and diesel powertrains and manual and automatic gearbox options. Regarding overall design and look, the 5-door Thar is expected to carry a similar design to the 3-door Thar. Further, it will be positioned on the ladder frame setup that we can see in Scorpio N. Since it will be offered in the sub-4 meter segment, it can avail of necessary tax benefits like 3-door Thar.

It's anticipated that the upcoming Thar can feature a 300 mm extra wheelbase compared to the 3-door Thar to add two more doors and seating capacity for three adults. Three-door Thar currently measures 3950 mm overall length and 2450 mm wheelbase.

Further, the 5-door Mahindra Thar would pack several features, including a sunroof, front center armrest, upgraded touchscreen infotainment system, and more space inside the cabin and for luggage. The upcoming Thar may also offer multiple seating options for the second row.
