2 wheeler sales went up by 1.70% (y-o-y), in July 2023

The following table shows the sales and market share of different two wheeler original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India for July 2023. It also shows the y-o-y growth rate and the difference in market share for each OEM. The table is based on the data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Analysis

According to the table, Hero MotoCorp is the market leader in the two wheeler segment, with a market share of 31.77% in July 2023. However, it also registered a decline of 8.70% in sales and 3.63% in market share compared to July 2022. Honda is the second largest OEM, with a market share of 22.75%, but it also suffered a drop of 14.90% in sales and 4.42% in market share year-on-year.

On the other hand, TVS, Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Ather showed positive growth in both sales and market share in July 2023 compared to July 2022. TVS is the third largest OEM, with a market share of 17.72%, followed by Bajaj Auto with 12.50%. Royal Enfield is the fifth largest OEM, with a market share of 5.07%, and it also recorded the highest growth rate of 34.30% in sales among the top five OEMs.

Suzuki and Yamaha are the sixth and seventh largest OEMs, respectively, with market shares of 4.74% and 4.40%. Ather is the eighth largest OEM, with a market share of 0.77%, and it also achieved the highest growth rate of 219.80% in sales among all the OEMs. Piaggio, Okinawa, Kawasaki, and Triumph are the bottom four OEMs, with market shares below 1%. Piaggio and Okinawa witnessed negative growth in both sales and market share, while Kawasaki and Triumph saw positive growth in sales but negligible change in market share.

CarBike360 Says

The total two wheeler sales in India increased by 1.70% from 1,308,764 units in July 2022 to 13,30,826 units in July 2023. The total two wheeler market share remained unchanged at 100%.

The table reveals the trends and patterns of the two wheeler industry in India, which is one of the largest markets for motorcycles and scooters in the world. It also reflects the impact of various factors such as consumer preferences, product innovation, pricing strategies, competition, regulation, and pandemic on the performance of different OEMs.
