2024 Maruti Suzuki Gets New Engine And Feature Updates

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its fourth-gen Swift as a close-to-production concept at the Japan Mobility Show last month. The hatchback also spied testing on the roads. The Japanese automaker has now announced some major updates about its flagship car. According to recent reports, the all-new Suzuki Swift boasts a fresh 1.2-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine and gets multiple updates in terms of features.

Maruti Suzuki Swift New Engine Unit

While the Japanese carmaker has continued offering a 1.2-liter petrol engine, the latest powertrain setup includes a 3-cylinder Z-series compared to existing models that get a 4-cylinder K-series engine. In a fresh update, the company said the three-cylinder engine unit will provide more torque at low speeds. However, the power output figures are yet to be announced. The Japan-spec Swift will be offered with a CVT automatic transmission that will be lighter and capable of increasing fuel economy.

Currently, the India-spec Swift gets power from a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. It is also anticipated that Maruti Suzuki could offer both manual and automatic transmission units in India-bound units of Suzuki Swift. The carmaker has offered hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive options for Japanese customers.

Other Updates

The 2024 Swift also gets some design and styling changes, including a rounded grille with a honeycomb pattern, full-LED lighting, and updated alloy wheels. All these design updates were showcased in the Japan Mobility Show held in October 2023. Inside the cabin, the Swift hatchback car gets an existing black and beige dashboard layout as offered in Japan-spec Swift. The car has the same steering wheel, climate control, and instrument cluster as the Suzuki Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

For features, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push-button start/stop, cruise control, and automated climate control. The carmaker has also offered six airbags, an electronic stability program, a 360-degree camera, and a suite of ADAS. However, the India-spec variant of Swift can miss out on the ADAS feature.

Expected Launch & Price

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift can debut in the Indian market in mid-2024 with an ex-showroom price of Rs 6 lakh. The hatchback will rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and may have to compete with Renault Triber, a subcompact crossover MPV under the same price point.
