Maruti Suzuki is now number one player in this vehicle category

Maruti Suzuki Invicto, India's recently launched multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), has received more than 7,900 orders, while demand for its commercial vehicle (SUV) has grown rapidly, with nearly 135,000 orders pending.

Shashank Srivastava, SVP of Marketing and Sales, said that Maruti currently has over 7,900 pre-orders for Invicto. Maruti opens pre-orders for the Invicto on June 19 at a nominal price of Rs 25,000. Invicto is the Maruti version of the Toyota Innova Hycross, available at more than 460 Nexa dealers nationwide.

Invicto is an intelligent electric hybrid drivetrain with a 2.0-liter petrol engine and an e-CVT. Total engine power is rated at 184 hp, with 150 hp for the engine and 112 hp for the electric motor. The engine torque is 188 Nm, and the engine power is 206 Nm.

Maruti currently has four SUVs: the Fronx, Brezza, Jimny and Grand Vitara, and aims to capture 25 percent of the SUV market by fiscal 2024.

For reference, the SUV market sold in FY23 was 1,673,000 units, with Maruti contributing 12% with 202,000 units. While the company expects commercial SUV sales to reach 1,900,000 units in fiscal 2024, it has set itself a target of 475,000 units.

Maruti's four SUV sales in June exceeded 34,000 units. Pending orders of 50,000 for Brezza, 30,000 for Grand Vitara, 28,000 for Jimny, and 27,000 for Fronx are also strong at the moment.

Depending on the model, the waiting time is 16–18 weeks for the Brezza, 12 weeks for the Grand Vitara, and 12 weeks for the Fronx. According to Srivastava, Maruti has 362,000 pending bookings overall at present, with 95,000 for the Ertiga, 8,000 for the XL6, 12,000 for the Eeco, 16,000 for the Baleno, 25,000 for the Dzire and 25,000 for the Tour S.
