MG Air EV testing Spied in India: Can it be cheaper than Tiago EV?

The MG Air EV will most likely have a choice between a 30 kW (40 bhp) and a 50 kW (67 bhp) electric motor with a range of 200 to 300 km.

MG has been keeping up with the times when it comes to EV technology. MG has established itself as an early EV player in the Indian market with ZS EV. Simply because MG's scale of operations here is not that of a large company, sales do not equate to greater volume products.

EV technology is hailed as the wave of the future, but automobiles are not notably less expensive. Mahindra's EV lineup begins with the XUV400, and it is highly improbable that it will be priced considerably below Rs. 10 lakh. MG's EV lineup now only includes the facelifted ZS EV. Its starting price is Rs. 22.58 lakh. However, MG is eager to introduce a less expensive EV in India. Additionally, Wuling Air EV was spotted testing in India.

If we take into account the sales statistics of China, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is the best-selling vehicle in China and moreover it even surpasses the VW. The Wuling Air EV and this Mini EV have a lot in common. Baojun E100, E200, and E300 are also closely connected, in addition to these two EVs. In China, demand for these little EVs is high. In the month of July 2022, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV alone sold 56,609 units. In China and perhaps also in India, the two-door electric hatchback known as the MG Air EV is designed with urban commuting in mind. With the e2O and e2O Plus, Mahindra tried to establish a reputation for itself in the micro EV market, but it didn't have much success in the beginning.

The fact is, the MG Air EV is smaller than the Alto 800. It is made in China by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture on their GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform. MG is probably going to try to localize everything as much as possible.

Possible launch & Specs

As of now, battery capacity is unknown. It has a range of 200 to 300 kilometers on a single charge in Indonesia. The price of the former is IDR 250 million (Rs 13.2 lakh), while the price of the latter is IDR 300 million (Rs 15.9 lakh). MG will probably pack a tonne of features into the Air EV. Dual 10.2" horizontal displays, retro-futuristic appeal, and many other possibilities are possible. The launch is most likely to take place in 2023. It might be more affordable than the just-released Tata Tiago EV.
