You're staring at the all-new Hyundai Kona - yeah, seriously, this is the brand's futuristic successor for its family-focused urban SUV. It's clearly gone as sci-fi as the rest of the series, and the outcome is yet another piece of forward-thinking design. Hyundai is currently releasing concept vehicles for the road.
The new Kona shares the Ioniq 5's and the brand's previous EVs Battlestar Galactica-inspired looks, but it comes in four different variants: pure EV, hybrid, conventional combustion engine, and sportier N Line (though a hotter N version is surely on the way). Each model has the same architecture, but it was developed as an EV first, with the other models being 'compromises,' which is the opposite of what we'd normally see. Each variety also has a little variation on the general design.

'Upscaled with Kona's own personality, the all-new Kona firmly communicates its strong and dynamic presence,' said SangYup Lee, director of Hyundai's Design Centre. 'Kona has developed in every way to embrace an even broader variety of diversity, to become a real lifestyle supporter,' says the company.
The new Kona is 150mm longer than the previous model, with a 60mm increase in wheelbase. Other technical specifications are still to be released.
All powertrains have the same futuristic appearance, yet they are distinguished by various interesting design elements. For example, the headlights are largely the same throughout all types, however the EVs are pixelated, as are the rest of Hyundai's electric vehicles.
The EV version has more pixels, while the ICE-powered variants have bolder bumpers, wheelarches, and skid plates. The N Line features more muscular front aprons, bigger dual exhausts, and different 19-inch allow wheels, as expected.

The Kona has an open interior with two 12.3-inch monitors dominating. The new Kona, like the Ioniq 5, attempts to be as minimalistic as possible, however the shifter is now located behind the steering wheel, as with Volkswagen's ID series.
