The Indian electric two-wheeler market is gradually moving on an upward trajectory. As per the latest reports, August 2025 signifies a moment in India’s electric two-wheeler market when it gains new bold leadership in the Indian automotive landscape. Over 1.4 lakh electric scooters and bikes hit the Indian roads, signaling robust consumer preferences toward sustainable mobility.
From record-busting surges to dramatic declines, every brand’s numbers have something to say about shifting customer loyalties, technology bets, and the race to lead India's emerging zero-emission future. Let's examine the noteworthy sales numbers for each brand and see what's written down.
India Electric 2W Market: Overview of August Sales 2025
With 104,306 total electric two-wheelers sold in August, there was a surge of 17% year-on-year growth. This result shows that the electric two-wheeler segment is gradually surpassing its past achievements. For the 2025 season, the 23% market share is dominated by the electric two-wheeler models. Now, the brands are competing with each other by selling EVs across the country in addition to their own ICE vehicles.
1. TVS Motor: The Reigning Monarch
TVS Motor Company once again became the leader in the electric 2W market. The company sold about 24,087 electric scooters in August 2025, gaining a 23% market stake. As per the reports by VAHAN Registration, TVS iQube was the best-selling e-scooter in India. With a tremendous rise of 37% Y-o-Y growth in August 2025. TVS’s 64% year-on-year growth between April and August, plus its CY2025 sales already at 86% of last year's record, are clear signals of deepening market trust and product resonance.
2. Ola Electric: The Challenger’s Resurgence
Ola Electric has been moving towards future possible growth. For August 2025, Ola gained momentum and surpassed its rival, Ather. The brand has now become the first EV maker to surpass the sales of 900,000 units in India. In August, the brand was able to sell around 18,972 scooters and e-bikes together, giving a rise of 8% in market share. The best-selling model in the E2W segment was the Ola S1, which is priced for entry-level mass mobility.
3. Ather Energy: The Breakout Performer
The third spot shows a remarkable shift on the list. The Bangalore-based start-up, Ather Energy, has now positioned itself in third place. In August, the brand was able to sell around 17,856 units, making it the best monthly sales ever across the brand’s portfolio. With a 62% rise in Y-o-Y, controlling 17% of the market share. Ather’s success is rooted in the Rizta family scooter, which was responsible for over 60% of its sales in August 2025.
4. Hero MotoCorp: The Fastest Climber
It's surprising that Hero MotoCorp, the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, dropped to fourth place. The brand sub-division, Vida Mobility, sold 13,313 units, which represents a giant leap of 180% over August 2024. The brand outpaced Bajaj Auto for the first time in EV sales. This feat was primarily fueled by outsized demand for the new Vida VX2, combining Hero’s unparalleled dealership network with a renewed focus on technology-driven products. In July 2025, the brand was able to sell just 10,537 EVs when compared with August 2025.
5. Bajaj Auto: A Supply Chain Setback
The month of August was a bit of a disappointment for Bajaj Auto. The brand shows a 30% down year-on-year growth. This downfall was due to rising concerns about the rare earth magnet supply crunch that has badly affected the Bajaj Chetak production firm. The Bajaj Chetak recorded a sale of about 11,730, which was much less when compared to the 16,818 sales in August 2024.

This unit sold much more in the second quarter of the year compared to the sales from the first quarter of 2025. The Ampere e-scooter shows a remarkable 59% year-on-year growth and retains the market share by 4% in the E2W segment. The most profit for the brand was brought by the flagship Nexus scooter.
7. Pur Energy: Steady Progress
One of the most recent competitors in the electric two-wheeler market, Pur Energy is also a startup brand incubated from the i-TIC at IIT Hyderabad. With efforts and offering a dynamic product range, the brand has positioned itself as a regular competitor in the monthly top 10 electric two-wheeler giants' OEM list. For the 2025 edition, the brand registered around 1779 units sold with a 51% year-on-year growth and a subtle 5.4% rise from July 2025. Its consistent upward trajectory highlights the growing acceptance of affordable, no-frills electric scooters in semi-urban and rural markets.
8. BGauss Auto: Healthy Double-Digit Expansion
BGauss, another startup, put itself in eighth place. A Mumbai-based electric two-wheeler corporation aiming to lead the market has been growing gradually at a slower rate; as per the latest report, around 1720 units of BGauss automotive were sold, signaling its 55% growth Y-o-Y. The most prominent models that signify its sales success are the RUV 350 and Max C12, reflecting its 7.8% increase month-on-month. The brand is steadily building a distinct space among budget-conscious urban commuters who crave dependable quality and local support.
9. River Mobility: Phenomenal Leap
It’s good to see many Indian two-wheeler startups promoting and developing electric mobility. With such an aim, River Mobility is also making headlines in the Indian electric two-wheeler segment. The brand managed to sell 1657 units in August 2025, which signifies the highest percentage growth year-on-year. With only one model under the portfolio, River Indie registered its best-ever monthly retail sales since its inception in the market in October 2023.
