Hyundai Sets Sights on Indian Micro SUV Market with Upcoming Launch of Exter
Hyundai is now ready to introduce a new micro SUV called the Exter in the Indian market. The highly anticipated vehicle is scheduled to make its debut on July 10th, creating significant buzz among car enthusiasts. In a bid to establish a strong presence in this competitive segment, Hyundai has already commenced accepting bookings for the Exter.
Positioned strategically within Hyundai's product lineup, the Exter will occupy a space below the popular Venue model. The upcoming micro SUV will face tough competition from rivals such as Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Citroen C3, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.
One notable aspect of the Exter is its shared platform with the Grand i10 Nios, which promises a sturdy foundation for the new vehicle. When it comes to size, the Exter will boast the longest wheelbase in its segment, measuring an impressive 2,450 mm. Additionally, its height of 1,631 mm will be the tallest among its competitors. These dimensions bode well for rear passengers, as the Exter is expected to offer generous headroom and legroom.
Under the hood, the Exter will house a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. With a power output of 83 bhp and 114 Nm of torque, the vehicle guarantees a capable performance. Buyers will have the choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT transmission. Furthermore, Hyundai will also provide a CNG powertrain option, available solely with a manual gearbox.
The Exter will be offered in five distinct variants: EX, S, SX, SX (O), and the range-topping SX(O) Connect. All variants, except the base EX trim, will come equipped with an AMT gearbox. The CNG powertrain option will be limited to the S and SX variants.

True to the Hyundai brand, the Exter will be packed with an array of impressive features. Setting new standards in its segment, the vehicle will introduce several first-in-class amenities, including a dashcam and an electric sunroof. In fact, the Exter could potentially become the most affordable car in India to offer a sunroof.
In terms of additional features, buyers can expect LED Daytime Running Lamps, projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, the Exter will be equipped with Hyundai's BlueLink connected car technology, Alexa connectivity, support for 10 regional languages in the infotainment system, as well as over-the-air and map updates.
When it comes to pricing, industry insiders anticipate the Exter to start from approximately ₹ 6 lakh, with the top-spec variant reaching around ₹ 10 lakh. This places it in close competition with the Tata Punch. However, it is worth noting that the base trim of the Exter may be priced slightly below that of the Tata Punch, offering potential buyers an enticing option in this segment.
