Suzuki Motorcycle India reports 19% growth in domestic sales in July 2023

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), the two-wheeler subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has reported a 19.14% year-on-year growth in domestic sales in July 2023. The company sold 63,059 units in the domestic market, compared to 52,928 units in July 2022. However, the month-on-month sales declined by 6% from 67,040 units in June 2023. The company attributed the growth to the strong performance of its scooter segment, which accounted for 94% of its total sales. The Access scooter was the best-selling model for the company, with 39,503 units sold in July 2023, registering a 16% growth over July 2022. The Burgman scooter also witnessed a 39% increase in sales, from 8,793 units in July 2022 to 12,181 units in July 2023. The Avenis scooter, however, saw a 12% decline in sales, from 9,284 units in July 2022 to 8,188 units in July 2023.

Motorcycle segment shows mixed results

The motorcycle segment of the company showed mixed results. The Gixxer motorcycle recorded a whopping 1099% growth in sales, from 144 units in July 2022 to 1,726 units in July 2023. The Gixxer 250 motorcycle also posted a 200% increase in sales, from 171 units in July 2022 to 513 units in July 2023. The V-Strom SX motorcycle also registered a 149% growth in sales, from 380 units in July 2022 to 948 units in July 2023. However, the DL650XA, Intruder, Katana and Hayabusa models did not sell any units in July 2023.

Optimism for the festive season

The company said that it is optimistic about the upcoming festive season and expects to maintain the momentum of growth. It also said that it is working on expanding its product portfolio and dealer network to cater to the diverse needs of its customers.
