December 2025 saw a huge sales surge in multiple SUV models. Some brands saw tremendous sales growth, while others struggled to get a market share. Mahindra secures the second spot for the first time, beating Tata Motors and Hyundai. Let’s take a look at the sales report of each OEM manufacturer in India.

1. Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki solidified its market leadership with 178,646 domestic units sold in December 2025, marking a 37% YoY surge from December 2024. This growth stemmed from robust demand for compact cars, with 43% Y-o-Y, including models like Brezza, Fronx, and Grand Vitara.

The company's pending bookings stood at 1,75,000 units, with rural markets outperforming metros, aided by GST-led affordability. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire emerged as the best-selling car of the 2025 season.

2. Mahindra

Mahindra secured second position with 50,946 units, achieving 23% YoY growth despite a 9.6% dip from November's 56,336 units. SUV portfolio leaders like Mahindra Scorpio N, XUV 700, and Thar drove this momentum, reflecting sustained urban and rural appetite for rugged vehicles. Mahindra's performance edged out rivals, narrowing the gap at the top while maintaining strong CY2025 totals of 5,92,771 units.

3. Tata Motors

Tata Motors recorded 50,046 units, a solid 13% YoY increase, slipping to third but buoyed by EV sales of 6,906 units, showing up 24% growth. Tata Nexon and Punch models spearheaded growth, complemented by EV and CNG options in a diversified lineup. With massive bookings for the upcoming Sierra, Tata eyes reclaiming the second spot in 2026.

4. Hyundai

Hyundai posted 42,416 domestic units, a marginal 0.5% YoY rise, with total sales, including 16,286 exports, at 58,702 units, showing 6.6% growth. The newly launched Venue emerged as a key driver, though flat domestic growth led to a 2.6% market share loss amid fiercer competition. Exports surged 26.5% YoY, highlighting Hyundai's global strength.

5. Toyota

Toyota, in the December 2025 season, sold around 3.21 lakh units, capturing around 7.17% market share in the Indian automotive segment. The best-selling cars sold under the Toyota portfolio were the Innova Crysta and Hycross. Even the Maruti Suzuki rebadged models, such as the Urban Cruiser Taisor, Glanza, and Hyryder, helped to keep the sales momentum.

6. Kia

Kia delivered its best-ever December with 18,659 units, exploding 105% YoY and more than doubling prior volumes. Strong buyer sentiment, GST reductions, and models like the Kia Seltos fueled this, despite a 27% M-o-M decline from November. Since market entry in 2019, this marks Kia's peak December performance.

7. MG Motors

MG sold 6,500 units, down 13.5% YoY from 7,516 units, primarily driven by the Windsor EV, India's top-selling EV in 2025. The decline reflects post-festive adjustments in a competitive EV segment, where broader market EV sales hit records. MG's focus remains on electrification amid partnership talks.

8. Honda

Japanese manufacturer Honda is struggling to keep pace with the competitive Indian market. However, the brand managed to sell around 65,576 units in December 2025, but the market share still slipped to 1.40%. Honda Elevate occupies most of the selling profit, followed by Honda City and Honda Amaze.

9. Skoda

For the 2025 season, Skoda sold around 1 lakh annual sales, capturing around 2.42% market share. Skoda Kylaq emerged as the best-selling car under the portfolio. Even models like the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, and Octavia RS helped to keep the sales surge in December 2025.

10. Volkswagen

Volkswagen sold around 4,256 units in December 2025. Volkswagen Virtus emerged as the best-selling car under the portfolio, followed by the Taigun and the Tiguan R-Line. However, in competition with Skoda, the brand showed a slip of 11.1% in market share. With 27.3% M-o-M, the brand climbed to the top 10 spot in the Indian automotive landscape.

11. Renault

Renault achieved 3,845 units, surging 33.4% YoY, continuing Q3 momentum from the updated Kiger and Triber. Domestic growth highlights renewed interest in affordable SUVs, with the upcoming Duster reveal poised to boost volumes further.

12. Nissan

Nissan is facing a serious sales crisis in India. With the Magnite, the brand still managed to sell around 1,902 units in December 2025. However, this sales figure was somehow around 1,908 in November 2025.

13. Citroen

Citroen recorded 1,902 units in December 2025. Amid plans to expand to 200 outlets, Citroen's focus on accessible EVs and service networks aims to lift volumes. Growth remains modest but strategic in mass-market segments. The brand showed a tremendous sales growth of about 110%. This could happen with the launch of the new Citroen C3 Aircross under the catered budget.

14. Jeep

Jeep dispatched 1,092 units, holding steady at a 0.2% share with minimal change, led by Compass and Meridian in the premium SUV space. Stable performance reflects a loyal buyer base, though overall luxury segment pressures persist. Jeep eyes electrification push for future gains.

Market Overview

The total market reached 4,04,231 units, up 25% YoY but down 3% MoM, with dealer inventories shrinking due to real demand. Rural revival, GST cuts, and SUV dominance led by Mahindra and Tata shaped trends, while EVs contributed significantly.

Conclusion

As 2026 dawns, India's PV market pulses with promise as Maruti's iron grip, Mahindra-Tata SUV supremacy, Toyota hybrids, and Kia disruptors set the stage for epic clashes. With EVs shattering records and rural demand roaring back, expect Sierra, Duster, and Gravite to ignite fierce rivalries.
